Saving Money on Eating Out

Since I'm single and ready to mingle, I don't eat at home as often as my married friends do. So, while I get great deals on groceries, I also get great deals on eating out. Tips for saving money on eating out:

1. Make a list of your favorite fast food restaurants as well as sit down restaurants.
2. Visit each of their websites.
3. Sign up to be on their mailing list. (Chili's will give you free queso just for signing up)
4. Do their survey.
5. Check your receipt. (I get free sandwiches from Chick-Fil-A often because I'll get a receipt that reads "Do this survey and get a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich)
6. Check both sides of your receipt. (Every now and then McDonald's will slide some coupons on the back of their receipts)
7. Check the mail. I get weekly coupons from Arby's Taco Bueno, Popeye's, and IHOP. Less often, I get coupons from Mazzio's, Sonic, and Elephant Bar.
8. Check the paper. I've found coupons for Logan's, Red Lobster, and Olive Garden in the Sunday Paper.
9. Join the club. Some restaurants have memberships for additional savings. (I signed up and got a Warrior Card from P.F. Changs, and I get 10% off my entire bill each time I go. 10% may not seem like a lot, but here in Oklahoma, it at least covers the tax.)
10. Go on the deal day. (I always go to Qdoba on Mondays for lunch. Why? 'Cause it's Dollar Taco day!)
11. Network. If you frequent a place, the Manager may just give you some free coupons just to be nice.

Feel free to share any other methods of saving when you eat out!

Tip of the week

Okay, as you may or may not know, I'm relatively new to couponing, but here's something I tried the other day that ended up working well for me.

Make a list of the items that you normally purchase, i.e. milk, toothpaste, dog food, etc. Once you've made your list, Google those items. I tried this the other day, and found great dog food coupons, I use Horizon Organic Milk, and found three coupons for this. I rarely find milk coupons! I found 3 great soy sauce coupons, and more, all from visiting these various websites.

Keep in mind:
Some sites make you sign up, i.e. give up your personal info. If you're not comfortable with this, create a new email address just for couponing so you won't get overwhelmed with emails.

Surfing and Saving!

Okay, the following sites I frequently visit to save on groceries, and one is a blog that I just found yesterday! They are listed in the order I visit them on any given day.

www.coupons.com
www.smartsource.com
www.redplum.com
www.couponcloset.net (Great blog!)

Enjoy!

Quick tip

When shopping, be SURE to check your receipt! I bought two bottles of Simply Orange Juice from Homeland that were listed on sale for 2.99 each, but I was charged 3.79 each. I found the mistake and my 1.80 plus tax was quickly refunded to me.

Free Clothes!

I honestly can't remember the last time I've gone clothes shopping, but in my closet are a pair of Sevens, clothes from The Gap, Limited, Abercrombie and Fitch, Aeropostale, and American Eagle, just to name a few.

They were all free.

If you'd like to have free clothes as well, take a look at your friends. Are any of your friends around the same size? If not, do you know someone that knows someone that's around your size?

When I'm with friends around my same size, I just come out and say it. "When you're over that sweater, I'd like to have it". They will usually laugh, then I make sure they know I'm serious. As a result, I receive clothes from two friends, and a friend of a friend. (Come on!) Usually, if your friend is trying to lose weight or having a baby, getting married, or moving, they will hook you up big time!

Now this deal can't be all take, and no give. I frequently clean out my closet, and either continue the giving cycle to my other friend or cousin, or I give to Goodwill. It never fails. Every time I give clothes away, I get "new" clothes to replace them.

Not your deal?

If you want brand names for an inexpensive price, you might try Daisy Exchange.

Still not your deal?

You can brand new, never worn clothes, for an inexpensive price at Forever 21.

About Me

Hello there!

This past Monday, I sat down with my bills, and after wondering where all of my money went, decided that I should start managing my money better. To really get an idea of where my money was going, I pulled my last 3 months of bank statements so that I could have a snapshot of my spending habits. I was alarmed at the amount of money that I had been spending on FOOD; eating out and groceries. It's no wonder I was living close to, and sometimes beyond my means! Yikes!

So...

I decided to make a budget for myself, start clipping coupons, and force myself to stay within my budget by using cash for almost everything. Easy enough, right? WRONG. I sat there a minute and realized that I'm a good lookin' single lady with a full time job, people to see, and places to go! There's no way in the world that I would have that kind of time!

Shortly after my revelation, I purchased Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace, set up a debt snowball calendar, set up a budget which I began to live by, and started using cash. The only missing component was coupons. I found out about a Coupon workshop provided by my employer, learned a lot and enthusiastically began clipping coupons for about two weeks. Guess what? I got busy; life happened. Months went by, and I had collectively saved less than 10.00 with coupons, so I decided that I was over it.

At the end of 2010 I watched a show that would change my life and my purchasing habits. The name of the show was Extreme Couponing, and after I watched these people get groceries for pennies on the dollar, and sometimes pennies on the tens of dollars, I made up my mind. I made a 2011 New Year's Resolution to never pay full price for anything ever again.

I got in my car, went to Staples, and purchased a binder, and photo sheets, and used my knowledge from the Coupon Workshop to put together a Coupon Book. To make sure that I would continue my Couponing, I decided to "make an appointment" to clip coupons each week. I picked Saturday Morning. So each Saturday Morning, I grab a Sunday Paper (more on that later), and I clip coupons while watching my favorite Saturday Morning Television and drinking a Dr. Pepper.

As a result of my couponing, I had my biggest savings to date. I saved $47.11 today with manufacturer's coupons, store coupons, and in-store sales.

The typical "couponer" is married with children. I'm single, and I NEVER thought in a million years that I would be a "couponer". This is how I got here, and the following posts are tips I've received from other people and my ideas on many different ways to save money. Ready to save? Put your seatbelt on...HERE WE GO!!
